Variety: Costume Designer Paul Tazewell to Showcase His Work from ‘Wicked’ and ‘Hamilton’ at Chicago’s Griffin Museum of Science and Industry

Paul Tazewell’s costumes from “Hamilton,” “Wicked” and “West Side Story” are set to go on display at Chicago’s Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.


The exhibition, titled Crafting Character: The Costumes of Paul Tazewell, is the first of its kind dedicated to his work and will premiere on Jan. 19, 2026.


In a statement, Tazewell said, “This exhibition is a great privilege and honor.” He added, “Being invited to share my work in a way that will be engaging and immersive, and to be able to invite others into that experience means so much to me.”

It is truly inspiring to read about Paul Tazewell’s costume designs being showcased at the Museum of Science and Industry, as the intersection of artistic vision and technical precision is something I think about often while navigating the intensive rigors of my current PhD research. Paul Tazewell’s work is truly inspiring, especially seeing how costume design contributes so much to storytelling. I once attended a theater production and realized how much detail goes unnoticed unless you really pay attention.
